BEFORE

Problems and challenges faced prior to coaching

Before working with Victoria, I was in a place where I honestly thought something is wrong with me...

For the past 10 years I'd been struggling to stick to any sort of diet, even to healthy eating, and to any consistent form of exercise. Which made me feel bad - so I'd often go out and treat myself to something sweet to help me feel better, and then I'd feel guilty about eating the sweets.

"It was all a vicious cycle that made me feel like I was trapped in a place I couldn't escape."

I would often overeat at restaurants and parties, which made me feel shitty the day after - but I never knew how to stop when I was full.

Another big problem for me was dealing with the comments people would make about my body. I was really trying to brush it off, but they stung, especially when they came from my loved ones!

Deep down I knew they meant well when they told me I put on weight, but that didn't make it any easier to deal with.

"What was worse was that I had internalised a lot of these thoughts and I was often unkind to myself, putting myself down without even realising it!"

And then I was wondering why my business wasn't doing very well, or why people doubted me!

I had some superficial level of confidence, but it was cracking at the first sight of someone's disapproval or disagreement!

I learned so, so much not only about how the brain works and why we do some stuff, but I also learned how to have more compassion for myself.

Recognising the reason I was stress-eating made me feel 100 times better - and just noticing made me so much more aware, so I could now decide if I actually wanted to eat!

I feel like I've made a huge progress when it comes to listening to myself - I've learned to take a break, relax, plan fun activities, do the hard work even when it's uncomfortable, and allow myself to eat the food I want without feeling guilty!

I've made peace with my upbringing, with my past and with any situation that ever made me feel I wasn't worthy of love.

  1. There's nothing wrong with me. I'm not incapable of sticking to healthy food or exercising. It was the fact that my identity was not of a healthy, sporty or fit person - so I wasn't able to sustain a healthy habit.
    • Identifying where that came from, how my family history and things that people had told me influenced my current behaviour - that was a game-changer! 
  2. Feeling my feelings instead of ignoring them was one of THE major takeaways I've had from our work. As someone who was always trying to stay positive and look on the bright side, admitting I wasn't feeling good was hard. Really hard.
    • When you have the identity of a high achiever, it's really difficult to show up and be vulnerable, because it can seem like you're weak. But vulnerability is the opposite of perfectionism. And I'm learning to be more vulnerable because that's how you make genuine connections! 
  3. Being able to go out without makeup and not feel like extra-ugly has been a major shift. I used to put on foundation and concealer to go to the supermarket, because I always felt judged.
    • Now I wear makeup only when I film videos and maybe when I go out, but besides that it's been a massive change and has freed up at least 2h/week which I can now use to relax!
  4. Finally, being able to wear V-necks and tops where my chest is showing. I didn't even realise that was a problem until you pointed it out and challenged me to wear one! And oh god, this was a shift! It's actually now become one of my favourite parts of my body, and I'm definitely not self-conscious about it anymore!
    • Last year I bought a dress that I loved, but it had a deep-V opening, and I was super self-conscious while wearing it the whole day. This summer I wore the same exact dress, with the exact same people - and felt like a rockstar!
  5.  I feel my newest strength is the ability to fly and not feel anxious. Honestly, I was struggling so much, I once paid about $30 just to change my seat because it was at the back of the plane.
    • Now I know how to use breathing and allowing to help me calm down before and during the flight, so much so that I was able to sleep, read and enjoy myself even at the last row of the plane, during turbulence!
