Have you ever stopped to think about why we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner when we do?

Who came up with it? What is the reasoning behind it? Was it scientifically proven that our mealtimes are best for our health?

You might be surprised to learn that mealtimes were initially created during the Industrial Revolution.

Yup, the Industrial Revolution was when it was decided that workers would be given their breaks at specific times. The meal times that we use today actually have nothing to do with how our body works, or when we get hungry.

We can make our own rules, determine our own mealtimes, listen to our bodies, and define what works for us.

Cool brain facts.

  1.  The brain of a human contains approximately one hundred billion neurons.
  2. Information runs between neurons in your brain for everything we see, think, or do. These neurons move information at different speeds. The fastest speed for information to pass between neurons is about 250 mph.
  3. It is a myth that humans only use 10 percent of our brain. We actually use all of it. We’re even using more than 10 percent when we sleep.

As a science-based intuitive eating coach I believe that education= empowerment.

I teach clients about how their brain works so that we can ultimately rewire it to think new thoughts and engage in new behaviors.

You’re thinking about them aren’t you?

Ironic process theory, refers to the psychological process whereby deliberate attempts to suppress certain thoughts make them more likely to surface. Which means by telling yourself things like “don’t eat the cookies” you’re more likely to eat the cookies. Take an abundance approach to your eating, give yourself permission to eat whatever you want and remove the restriction and thus fixation.

Why BMI Is Completely Bullshit?

BMI (body mass index), which is based on the height and weight of a person, is an inaccurate measure of body fat content and does not take into account muscle mass, bone density, overall body composition, and racial and sex differences.

Please DO NOT use BMI as any kind of an indicator for health, throw it right in the garbage where it belongs!

Measure the number of smiles, hugs, laughs, etc.

Those are the things that really count in life.

Guess what? Shaming yourself doesn’t work. It leads to self-soothing behaviors which are often the opposite of what you were striving for. Reject diet culture which tries to sell you that you aren’t enough as you are and instead become solely available for the fact that you are a fucking badass who is worthy of everything she wants in life.

Are you working from home? You might have a case of “snackrastonation”. This is what I have called it when we get bored of our work, are avoiding certain tasks, and simply don’t want to do what we’re meant to be doing and we choose to mindlessly snack instead, aka snack procrastination. Some tips to help. 

  1. When you go to eat check in with yourself about where the motivation is coming from. Is this hunger, or hunger to avoid? 
  2. Right down everytime you find yourself engaging in snackrastonation, is there a particular work task that  you’re always avoiding? Maybe this is something you can take up with your boss or sit down and dig into why it’s causing you so much turmoil.
  3. Give yourself lots of breaks! I personally do a pomodoro technique of work for 25 minutes and take a 5 minute break. This keeps me sharp and productive!

Struggling to accept yourself? We often convince ourselves that if we were to accept how we are right now that it would mean that we stop trying to strive for a better version of ourselves.

This means that we try to motivate ourselves to change through harsh words, punishment, and shaming. How many times have we looked in the mirror and told ourselves that: we need to lose weight, tone up our arms, eat better, hit the gym harder. Or whatever it is that our “inner mean girl” is telling us.
