Intention: a thing intended; an aim or plan.

Some ideas might be what you’d like to focus on more this month or how you’d like to feel.

Ex. Focusing on practicing more self-compassion. Or maybe, your intention might be to feel more confident in your body. What is your intention this month?

Why do diets fail?

Because it goes against everything our body is trying to do to keep us alive. It’s not self-sabotage it’s self-protection.

When we restrict calories our body thinks that something has gone wrong, that we’re sick. Calories are energy and our body whose only job is to keep us alive doesn’t like the deprivation of energy, it sees it as a threat.

Which means that not long into your diet you’ll get cravings to eat lots of high calorie (energy) food. This is not you self-sabotaging.This is your body making sure you’re okay and getting you to eat to keep you alive (thanks body).

We need this fail safe to kick in. So next time you think about dieting and restricting your food, just don’t. It’s not gonna work AND since weight loss isn’t the key to happiness it’s just going to be a huge waste of your time.

When we stop buying into the belief that we are not enough, we become rich in our ability to show up for ourselves as opposed to societal expectations. The door opens to a life where we can explore our true purpose and meaning.

It is radical because it requires us to reject the idea that some of us are more important than others. An idea that we are all currently prescribed to and one that is only upheld by our buying into it.

We need to stop the comparison and ranking. Eradicate this idea of a sliding scale of worth dependent on our external reality.

Affirmation: I am letting go of the things I cannot control, I am choosing to surrender to my body trusting that it knows best. 

Your body knows what it needs, knows what it wants, but we often forget that after years of being told we cannot trust our own body. No one knows your body like you know your body. Surrender and trust.

What does hunger feel like in your body?

A stomach rumble? Feeling hangry? Constant food thoughts? Fatigue? Irritability?

It can help to be able to distinguish between hunger and other sensations in our body like anxiety or fatigue. Get curious about your hunger, it is telling you something.

Have you ever stopped to think about why we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner when we do?

Who came up with it? What is the reasoning behind it? Was it scientifically proven that our mealtimes are best for our health?

You might be surprised to learn that mealtimes were initially created during the Industrial Revolution.

Yup, the Industrial Revolution was when it was decided that workers would be given their breaks at specific times. The meal times that we use today actually have nothing to do with how our body works, or when we get hungry.

We can make our own rules, determine our own mealtimes, listen to our bodies, and define what works for us.

Cool brain facts.

  1.  The brain of a human contains approximately one hundred billion neurons.
  2. Information runs between neurons in your brain for everything we see, think, or do. These neurons move information at different speeds. The fastest speed for information to pass between neurons is about 250 mph.
  3. It is a myth that humans only use 10 percent of our brain. We actually use all of it. We’re even using more than 10 percent when we sleep.

As a science-based intuitive eating coach I believe that education= empowerment.

I teach clients about how their brain works so that we can ultimately rewire it to think new thoughts and engage in new behaviors.

Don’t think about pink elephants! 

You’re thinking about them aren’t you?

Ironic process theory, refers to the psychological process whereby deliberate attempts to suppress certain thoughts make them more likely to surface. Which means by telling yourself things like “don’t eat the cookies” you’re more likely to eat the cookies. Take an abundance approach to your eating, give yourself permission to eat whatever you want and remove the restriction and thus fixation.
