I think there is a dangerous misconception that we should always love our body and if we don't it's because it's broken and needs fixing.

Here is the truth.
We can respect our body without always loving it.
We can appreciate that it allows us to live our life without liking how it looks in the mirror.
We can feel grateful for what our body can do while simultaneously hating how we look in a picture.
Body Freedom Tip
The reality is that we live in a culture that values thinness and certain body types over others (thankfully this is changing and YOU are a part of this change), and so sometimes we get sucked into this way of thinking.
Even after all of the work I've done, I still have moments where I don't love what I see in the mirror because of the years of conditioning from diet culture.
BUT here is the thing. We can still respect our body.

Body respect is something we can still have in moments we don't love or like our body.
Respecting your body means treating it with dignity and meeting its needs.
This means not hopping on the next diet, forcing yourself into the gym or shaming yourself with negative self-talk.
You're allowed to simply not love your body and sit in that feeling without requiring you to take any self-flagellating action steps.
Some things I like to do when I notice I'm having a negative body moment:

-Ask myself, did I get enough sleep? I'm always a lot more critical and negative when I haven't slept enough.
-Ask myself, did I spend too much time on social media today and compared myself to others? It's easy to think other people have better lives on social media when in reality we all have our own struggles we don't post.
-Ask myself, is this really about my body or something else? What we often think is a body problem is actually a life problem.
-Ask myself, what do I need right now? Sometimes this is a hug, cup of tea, call with a friend or my mom, a warm shower, a good cry.
I have a lot more of these suggestions for you and so if you're interested, know that I cover all of this in my 90 Days to Food Freedom 1:1 Coaching Program.
